# CST8318 - Graphic Technologies

# Course Introduction

In this course, students are immersed in the world of graphics and illustration programs within the computer environment. They will develop a keen understanding of essential skills and production techniques needed to design visually stunning interfaces for websites. Throughout the course, students will have ample opportunities to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Figma. The curriculum emphasizes a practical approach to learning basic design concepts, which will enable students to become proficient in using these software packages to create stunning visuals.

  • 1 hour/week (Theory)
  • 2 hours/week (Lab)
  • 3 hours per week of tutorials/videos/studying/practicing outside class

# Lab class Attendance

Attendance in the lab classes is mandatory for the entire term as students will be assigned an in-class exercise every week. During the two-hour lab session, students must complete and submit the assigned exercises. Failure to attend the lab class will result in a zero for the exercise, regardless of whether the exercise was completed outside the lab. This policy also extends to the midterm and final projects, which require weekly progress check-ins to ensure students are on track to completion.

# Late Penalty

Assignments must be submitted on Brightspace by the date and time they are due. A 20% late penalty per day will apply on late assignments for up to 5 days. To get a grade both submission and demo are required for labs and assignments. If demo is not done during the scheduled time, a grade of 0 is assigned.

# Performance Requirement

In-class work progress review is part of the performance assessment. A student must pass the combined term work (marked exercises, discussions, assignments, and quizzes) and score higher than 50% in all graded assignments, project, and quizzes to pass this course.
